Monographie, ed.2, p.174, 232: Leaves large, long ovate, of a dull green; buds large, obtuse,
scales greenish; Flower about 10.8 cm across, single, carmine red, 8-9 petals, broad,
sometimes round, notched and veined deep red. The interior of the flower consists of a group
of ivory filaments, some with petaloids, the others with yellow anthers. Originated in Italy by
Casoretti. Synonym: ‘Soulangiana’(Casoretti), ‘Soulangeana’.
